The history of YouTube till 2022

In this fifth attempt, I will talk about YouTube's history till 2022.

YouTube was founded in 2005 by three former PayPal employees - Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, & Jawed Karim - and was bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion.

In 2007, YouTube launched its first video-sharing service, allowing users to upload videos up to 10 minutes long. By the end of the year, the site had over 65,000 videos. In 2008, YouTube launched its partner program, which allowed content creators to earn revenue from their videos. In 2009, YouTube launched its first mobile app and also released a video-sharing website in the U.S. In 2010, YouTube's viewership surpassed one billion views per day. It also introduced its first paid subscription service for movies and TV shows. In 2011, YouTube launched its live-streaming service and also introduced a new look and feel for the platform. In 2012, YouTube added support for HTML5 video playback and introduced its first paid music streaming service. In 2013, YouTube launched its first music video awards show and also introduced its first advertising program. In 2014, YouTube launched its first virtual reality app and also introduced its first subscription service for music streaming. In 2015, YouTube introduced its first premium subscription service and launched its own movie and TV streaming service. In 2016, YouTube launched its first gaming platform and also introduced its first 360-degree video format. In 2017, YouTube launched its new virtual reality platform, YouTube VR. In 2018, YouTube launched its first streaming service for live sports and also introduced its first social media platform, YouTube Community. In 2019, YouTube launched its first augmented reality platform, YouTube AR. In 2020, YouTube launched its first video conferencing service, YouTube Meet, and also introduced its first video game streaming service, YouTube Gaming. In 2021, YouTube launched its first music streaming service, YouTube Music, and also introduced its first AI-enabled video editor, YouTube Studio. In 2022, YouTube is expected to launch its first podcast streaming service, YouTube Podcasts. As per some news sources, it has already been launched in the USA and the link is https://www.youtube.com/podcasts. Users in other countries will have to wait for the rollout in their respective countries.
